Serving Our Community

As our Jesuit ideals teach us, it is critical to be men and women who serve with and for others. Service is an important aspect of our school program, as it teaches our students the importance of standing in solidarity with all, whether we know them or not.

Throughout the Easter season, our 6th and 7th-grade classes visited the Vanderveer Park United Methodist Church just down the street from BJP. Our students helped create food bags for those in need, which included sanitary products and healthy cooking ingredients. This was a great opportunity for our students to serve their community and engage with the wonderful volunteers from the church. Together, they created countless food bags that will benefit many. As 1: Peter 4:10-11 reminds us, "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord."

Our students reflected that this was an extremely peaceful time for them, as they got to spend time speaking with the volunteers and learning more about their great work. We thank Vanderveer Park United Methodist Church for hosting us, and we recognize the amazing work they do in consistently giving back to the borough of Brooklyn!
