BJP's new President, James Kennedy, sent the following message to the entire BJP community:
Dear Friends of BJP,
I hope that you and your families had a wonderful summer.
The first day of school is a special occasion no matter what, but this year at BJP we have an extra reason to be joyful. Founded in 2003, we are celebrating our 20th Anniversary! For two decades, BJP has pursued its mission to form young leaders and break the cycle of poverty through education.
A journey that began in Crown Heights moved to East Flatbush in 2020. We are entering our fourth year in a renovated building, and our students are fortunate to be learning in a space that is beautiful and well-equipped.
We have grown, and this year we welcome a student body that is more than 15% larger than last year. Our students come from Flatbush and Flatlands, Brownsville and Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights and East New York. While our students come from diverse backgrounds, our community is united by our Jesuit values.
Elsewhere in NYC this week, our graduates begin the school year at their respective high schools. We are happy to report that 100% of the graduates from the BJP Class of 2023 are matriculating to Catholic high schools. What’s more, they earned on average $19,000 in financial aid support per student, per year. BJP seeks to create opportunities, and our alumni are a testament to our success.
We are proud of our past and excited about our future. As we look ahead to this special year, we invite you to join us as our journey continues. Whether you follow us on Instagram, participate in our Walkathon later this month, or volunteer at our Saturday program, we are grateful for your interest in and care for BJP and our students. We are also deeply grateful for the generous financial support we receive from so many. Thank you all very much.
There is much to be excited about as Brooklyn Jesuit Prep enters its third decade. Along with our Board of Trustees, our faculty and staff, and others,
I am excited about moving BJP forward and planning for the future. Like our
students, we have ambitious hopes and dreams. I look forward to sharing more
with you as the year progresses.
Please keep our students, families, and teachers in your prayers, and we
promise to do the same for you and yours.
With best regards,
James Kennedy
President
