The progress Brooklyn Jesuit Prep has achieved over the past twenty years would not be possible without the continued support of the USA East Province of the Society of Jesus. Their commitment to our students and mission allows us to plan for a brighter future, and we are very grateful. We are honored that Rev. Biagi, Rev. Gavin, and Rev. Powell will be accepting awards on their behalf. The impact these men have had on BJP and Jesuit education is immeasurable, and we are very excited to celebrate their work with you soon.

Rev. Vincent Biagi, SJ., served on Brooklyn Jesuit Prep’s Board of Trustees until 2022 and was the Chair of our Governance Committee. As a dedicated educator, Rev. Biagi has over thirty years of experience in leading Jesuit institutions, including serving as Principal of Regis High School from 1999 until 2006, as we as the Provincial Assistant for Secondary Presecondary Education. He is a graduate of Xavier High School and Fordham University and holds graduate degrees from the Weston School of Theology and New York University.

Rev. Kenneth Gavin, SJ., has supported Brooklyn Jesuit Prep in a variety of ways over the past twenty years, including serving on our Board of Trustees until 2023. Rev. Gavin led a weekly spirituality book club for BJP’s faculty and staff this past winter. He also periodically celebrates Mass with Brooklyn Jesuit Prep’s students. Rev. Gavin currently serves as the Local Superior of the Jesuits of Brooklyn. Before this, Rev. Gavin served as the Assistant National Director of Jesuit Refugee Services from 2011-2017, giving detained men and women access to the solace of their God.

Rev. Mario Powell, SJ served as the 6th President of Brooklyn Jesuit Prep from 2019-2023. During this time, Rev. Powell was instrumental in Brooklyn Jesuit Prep’s growth, including leading the move to our renovated school building in East Flatbush and establishing Building Futures. Changing Lives. The Campaign for BJP. Rev. Powell serves as the Provincial Assistant for Secondary and Pre Secondary Education for the USA East Province Jesuits. Before this, he served as the director of the REACH program at Regis High School in Manhattan. Rev. Powell is a graduate of Loyola High School, Boston College, and St. Louis University.
